Putting the art in the community & the community in art
The Victoria Park Lantern Festival is a spectacular, all-ages celebration of community in St. John’s historic West End. A participatory and volunteer-driven event, our annual Festival takes place on the Saturday of the last full weekend in July following a couple of months of public lantern-building workshops.
Our full-day event that starts at 2pm on the last Saturday of July with community booths, a Kids Zone, BBQ with popcorn and cotton candy, a yoga class, a soundstage featuring local performers, and a jar lantern-making workshop.
At 8pm, The Neighbour Hood Strays belly dancers perform on the soundstage and lead a procession of those in attendance to the top of the hill, where – at dusk – participants are treated to spectacular glowing lantern installation and a tremendous light and fire show accompanied by the Scruncheons Percussion ensemble.
(FREE/ALL AGES) Public lantern-building workshops take place every Tuesday/Thursday night from 6-8:30pm at the Victoria Park Pool House beginning June 26th! (all supplies provided/donations accepted).
