Victoria Park Lantern Festival

Friends of Victoria Park Festival Plans 2016

30 June 2016 – The Friends of Victoria Park Board of Directors are making plans to host the first ever

“Friends of Victoria Park Family Fun Festival”.

Scheduled to take place the same time as the traditional Lantern Festival – Saturday, July 30, 2016 (or Sunday, July 31 in the event of rain) – it is anticipated the 2016 Friends of Victoria Park Family Fun Festival will include many of the same day-long activities as the Lantern Festival, including concessions, entertainment, community booths, merchandise tents, a children’s games zone, and face painting, along with a number of new and exciting attractions.

The Friends of Victoria Park are proposing to close the day with the first ever FREE family movie night by LANTERN light.

“We are looking forward to hosting everyone for a full day of activities in Victoria Park in a few weeks’ time,” said FOVP Chair Michael Evoy, “and to working with the City and their new Victoria Park Foundation on the revitalization of the Park.”

The FOVP Board is excited about the revitalization plans for Victoria Park but uncertainty around the time period for Phase 1 construction work and other operational negotiations with the City of St. John’s have forced the cancellation of the Lantern Festival for this year.

FOVP hopes to bring back the much beloved lantern display – including the signature lantern parade, installations and Festival fire show finale – in the future once conditions permit.

In the meantime, stay tuned for an official announcement of our planned Friends of Victoria Park Family Fun Festival. We look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday, July 30, 2016 for a day filled with food, fun and entertainment, including a free family movie at night.
